Annual Membership Brunch

Border Grill, DTLA

Sunday, November 23, 2014

11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Our Annual Membership Celebration Brunch was held at the famous Border Grill in downtown LA. This is the home of the original "Two Hot Tamales," Dame Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger. Inspired by a road trip through Mexico in VW Bug, they opened their first Border Grill in 1985, setting a new standard for gourmet Mexican fare in LA. Now there are eight Border Grill locations, including a food truck and the new Border Grill in the stunning Forum Shops at Caesars in Las Vegas.

Mary Sue and Susan are two of the country's leading women chefs, cookbook authors and culinary personalities. We enjoyed a Sunday of fantastic food and a spicy good time, plus a very special salute to our own President (and hot tamale!) Dame Phyllis Ann Marshall of FOOD POWER for her phenomenal career and leadership for LDEI LA/OC over the past several years.

We enjoyed a Margarita Demonstration at Cha Cha’s Latin Kitchen, Signature Brunch Dishes, and Found Out Why The Orange County Business Journal Named

Don Myers The Restaurateur of the Year!

Screen Shot 2014-08-20 at 10.32.46 AM.png

WHERE: Cha Cha’s Latin Kitchen 110 W. Birch Street, Brea, 92821

WHAT: Starting in the lounge the bartender demonstrated how they make their popular margaritas made with 100% blue agave tequila, freshly squeezed seasonal juices and various other techniques. During this time Don Myers briefly shared his restaurant history. At the conclusion of the demonstration our group moved out to the patio, which overlooks Brea Downtown, where we enjoyed fresh chips, homemade salsas and their signature guacamole along with a house margarita. Guests then enjoyed a two-course brunch menu, which included a choice of soup, salad or fruit for their appetizer and one of their signature entrees.
